    Abstract
In an age of informality, proposing a formal toast is not something that one has to do very often. It is a matter of etiquette that needs to be checked out in advance. So, when I checked it out, I discov ered that 'the toast is the medium through which such deep feelings as love, hope, high spirits and admiration can be quickly, conveniently and sincerely expressed'. When I have finished, you can judge for yourselves which of the criteria I have best fulfilled.
